One Tank Trip

Kristie and Shawn Splivalo

A local adventure on one tank of gas.

Thirty-six hours, and one tank of gas. That was the window of opportunity my husband Shawn and I had for a quick getaway with the ProCamp. Living in Sheboygan, Wisconsin area we are really fortunate to have so many places to adventure within a short distance of home.
When we're not working, we tend to be out on the lake or at least by the shore. We love sailing and surfing, and are currently learning how to kiteboard. The ProCamp provided us with a nice home base, where we could easily fit all our gear, and have shelter from the elements. You can live, you can play, all out of one space.
After we picked up the van, we made a pit stop at a local coffee shop in Elkhart Lake to fuel us up with coffee and lunch. The Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive is a must if you're taking a road trip in South East Wisconsin. We headed out to Greenbush and drove through the turns and hills of the kettles for a while before turning towards the Lake Michigan lakefront. We set up camp at Kohler-Andrae State Park and settled into van life; really taking advantage of the indoor/outdoor living spaces. The awning was out. The hammock was hung, and Bodhi, our wirehaired pointing griffon was already making himself at home.
Lion's Den Nature Preserve, a County Park just south of Port Washington, was a definite on our list. I had been there before, but this was the first for my husband Shawn. We hiked along the bluffs and then made our way down the stairs to the stony beach where Bodhi took his first dip of the season into Lake Michigan.

“We were able to visit our local community, on a stay-cation, with ProCamp.”

As we ventured back north, we stopped too pick up a quick to-go lunch at a charming bakery in Port Washington. Then we headed to Harrington Beach State Park to eat and explore some more before driving along the lakefront back to Sheboygan.
It's amazing how much we have to explore in our own backyard; carving out time to play 'tourist' in your local area not only makes you appreciate home that much more, but is also a great way to support local businesses. The versatility and grab-and-go aspect of ProCamp by Van Horn really made this spontaneous road trip possible.
